Smartphone Owners Unite Over Performance IssuesJan 18, 2008 A group of HTC smartphone owners have started a site complaining that a number of the company's devices based on Qualcomm MSM7200 and MSM7500 chipsets aren't performing at the top of their game. Devices include: the TyTN II, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, Wings, Titan, Vogue, Libra and Iris. Devices may have different names depending on which carrier offers them. The group, operating the Website, HTCClassAction.org, says that its intention is to "spread awareness about the issues with recent HTC Smartphones and PocketPCs," and that an actual class action lawsuit would be a "last resort." The group claims that the latest devices from HTC "are supposed to be the most powerful devices on the market," but that the handset maker "neglected to include the necessary drivers needed for the devices to come to their full potential." Primary complaints have to do with video and graphics quality, such as choppy video game performance, lag time with the touch-screen, poor battery performance and a total device slowdown when using the camera. The group is calling for HTC to fix these issues; it's also offering $3,000 to anyone who can solve the problems. HTC, however, hasn't come out and said that there is a problem to be fixed exactly. The company's official response so far, according to UK Website The Inquirer, is: "Based on recent customer feedback with regards to video performance, HTC is in the process of investigating and validating these reports and if necessary identifying solutions to rectify any unusual issues." |
