Hispanic TuYo Mobile Debuts in Los AngelesOct 17, 2006 With more than 4.6 million Hispanics living in Los Angeles County, IDT Telecom sees the area as a perfect spot for its TuYo Mobile service. The service launch will be supported by a Spanish-language ad campaign that will span print, TV and radio. The MVNO's wireless services specifically targets Hispanic customers. Services include direct international dialing, low rates to Latin America, handsets, a fully bilingual customer experience, and country specific alerts featuring breaking regional news, Hispanic celebrity gossip, sports, politics and horoscopes. The Los Angeles launch comes in the midst of Hispanic Heritage month. TuYo Mobile recently announced it was temporarily cutting its international rates to Latin America as part of the month-long event. Through Oct. 31, 2006, international rates from the United States to Mexico are free. International rates to Peru and Brazil are just 1 cent per minute, and Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Honduras are 1.5 cents per minute. Last month, TuYo made more of a national move by signing an agreement with Wal-Mart Stores' Sam's Club unit, which will sell phones and, in some instances, recharge cards from TuYo in select locations. TuYo Mobile was launched in the U.S. in November 2005 in four major metropolitan markets, including New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Las Vegas. The MVNO also offers services in parts of Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland. |
