BlackBerry Pearl Available in CanadaOct 4, 2006 Research In Motion (RIM) is expanding the reach of its new BlackBerry Pearl device to Canada through a newly signed agreement with Rogers Wireless. The agreement marks the first time the Pearl is available in Canada. RIM introduced the Pearl in the U.S. market last month. The device highlights a desire by the company to move the BlackBerry beyond the boardroom. The smartphone is a quad-band device featuring more consumer-oriented features, such as a digital camera, multimedia capabilities and an expandable memory slot - a new feature for a BlackBerry device. The BlackBerry Pearl also comes equipped with a music player, another first for the handheld. The camera and music player are features RIM expects will appeal to consumers, the company said at the time of the U.S. unveiling. T-Mobile USA was the first U.S. wireless carrier to sign up to offer the Pearl. RIM has no plans of limiting the Pearl to North America. The company says several carriers have signed on to launch the device in Europe soon. RIM also expects the Pearl to land in the Asia-Pacific and Latin America before the end of the year. |
