Cellphone NewsYahoo Japan Steps Up Mobile Content DistributionOct. 13, 2005 TOKYO (Reuters) -- Yahoo Japan Corp. said on Thursday it had launched a mobile content distribution service, in which cellphone users can buy games, ring tones, news and other entertainment and information from 59 content providers. The move is the latest in a series of new services targeted at the rapidly growing mobile Internet commerce market. Japan's top wireless operator, NTT DoCoMo Inc., said on Tuesday it would form a capital tie-up with Internet shopping mall operator Rakuten Inc. to provide Web auction services to cellphones and personal computers. In the new service, Yahoo Japan's revenues come as fees for settling transactions and collecting payments for content providers. It declined to comment on its sales target for the new business. Content providers for the new service include digital content creator Cybird Co. Ltd. and game maker Taito Corp.. Yahoo Japan said it aimed to launch a similar service for personal computer users next year. |
