Global Cell Phone Handset Shipments and Market Shares in 2009Jan 29, 2010 Below are the global handset shipments and market share estimates in 2009 for the Top 5 cell phone vendors, according to research firms IDC and Strategy Analytics. The main drivers of growth were demand in the United States and Asia/Pacific region. Nokia held its long-term spot as the No. 1 handset vendor with 127 million units shipped, with Samsung coming in second with about 69 million units. LG came in third with about 34 million units while Sony Ericsson and Motorola rounded out the top five list with shipments of about 14.5 million and 12 million, respectively.
